New Filter in Power BI – New Data Segmentation
In today's lesson, I want to introduce you to the new bitcoin data filter in Power BI that will allow you to customize your data segmentation.

Initially, this filter is called Slicer in Power BI, but it may be changed due to translation.

The idea is that with it we can customize data segmentation in Power BI, changing rows, columns, format, colors and even adding images, making your dashboard even more visual!

Did you like this new Power BI tool? Do you want to learn how to use it? Then download the available material and come with me!

Total Revenue Chart and Data Segmentation
Within the available material, we have a graph of a company's monthly revenue for each period of the year 2019.

Total Revenue Chart
If we want to know what the revenue was for each type of product, it would be necessary to create a data segmentation in which we would filter by product categories.

However, when using common data segmentation, we can only use it in list , block or drop-down list formats , without very visual and personalized options.

To further customize our data segmentation and improve the look of our dashboard , we can use the new filter in Power BI called Slicer .

To access this functionality, you must have one of the latest versions of Power BI, at least the version released from November 2023 onwards . If your version is earlier, simply update .

This new data slicer operates similarly to the first one. We can add it to our dashboard and select to filter by the Category column of the dSubcategory table .

Initially, we will have buttons as would be possible with traditional data segmentation. However, the difference is in the Format tab , where we can now customize these buttons and the interactions with them.

We can define which state of the button we want to change, be it Default , Hover (when the mouse hovers over it), Press (when it has already been clicked) and Selected (after clicking).

For each state, we can customize various characteristics of the buttons, such as color, border, padding, shadow, brightness, highlight bar, and so on.
