European iPhones will soon stop being "dumb": AI will touch them with its magic wand in April

Post by tasnimsanika69 »

On Mac computers, the first components of Apple Intelligence, the much vaunted artificial intelligence (AI) from the Apple company , are already operational in the European Union (in English at least). However, European users of the iPhone and iPad will still have to wait a few months to be able to enjoy Apple Intelligence (although there is already an official date for the landing of this technology on these two devices in the old continent).

As expected, some of Apple's AI features will be coming to the iPhone and iPad in EU countries at a later date. The Cupertino company explicitly referred to the legal uncertainties posed by the new EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) this summer and decided to postpone the introduction of Apple Intelligence on European soil for an indefinite period. However, the company led by Tim Cook has finally provided a specific date for the debut of Apple Intelligence on iPhones and iPads for EU citizens : April 2025.

Apple Intelligence features will likely be available on all iPhones and iPads in Europe that support the technology by that date . And iPhone and iPad users in Spain will also benefit from them. Apple Intelligence includes AI-based features to improve texts, integrates ChatGPT, incorporates a new version of Siri and also allows the creation of emojis from prompts.

Across the pond in the United States, much of the functionality built into Apple Intelligence was released on Monday with software updates to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

Apple Intelligence is now available in Europe on Mac computers
In Europe, Apple was particularly concerned that overlapping DMA requirements afghanistan whatsapp data (which force gatekeepers to open up their technology to other manufacturers and service providers) could potentially compromise the protection of its users' data . However, in recent months the US multinational seems to have found a way to reconcile DMA compliance with data protection and user security.

Since Apple cannot be labeled as a gatekeeper in the Mac market, Apple Intelligence features are now available to European Mac users . To benefit from Apple Intelligence features on Macs, users must first install the macOS 15.1 update and have a device with at least an M1 processor and configured in English. Apple Intelligence will soon be available in other languages on Macs.

Apple's vision of AI revolves around the idea that the software should have broad access to user data on the company's devices. However, the DMA requires the large online platforms, the so-called "gatekeepers", to guarantee that other providers have access to their technology and not to favour their own products and services. However, the DMA provides for exceptions to the rule if compliance with the law affects the "integrity" of the services of the companies directly concerned.
