Why Does a 404 Error Occur?

The 404 error is a standardized HTTP status code. The message is sent from the web server of the online status to the web browser (usually the client) that sent the HTTP request. The browser then displays this error code.

There are different types of HTTP response status codes. They all indicate whether a particular HTTP request was completed successfully. There are five classes of codes:

When an HTTP 404 appears, it means that although the server is reachable, the page you are looking for is either a non-existent page or broken. If you are using Google Chrome or Mozilla, the 404 error code can appear in any browser.
