The clear blue atmosphere of the Earth gently embraces us and supports the lives of all living creatures on the planet. With a desire to continue to protect that beauty, we chose the theme "Song of the Atmosphere." The atmosphere shows various expressions depending on the season and time, such as the quiet energy, dynamism, and majesty of the dawn sky. We look forward to seeing a masterpiece following last year's Excellence Award, which beautifully expresses depth with multiple mountains and the height of the sky with the clouds of airplanes reaching for the heavens.


This photo was taken at around 5:30 a.m. in August 2010, from the summit of Mt. Shiude in Mitoyo, Kagawa Prefecture. I decided to take photos of the sunrise from this spot, which overlooks the Seto Inland Sea small islands, and continued to go there for 40 days. On that day, I was so engrossed in the long-awaited morning light that the air was remove background image dyed in purple, yellow, and blue that I kept pressing the shutter.
Judges' evaluation
The Excellence Award winners, who photographed clouds colored by the morning sun, islands stretching out into the sea, and the state of the tides on a grand scale, convey the photographer's enthusiasm for the theme. "Awakening of the Cormorants" was captured dynamically with a telephoto lens, and "A UFO Appears" also boldly and clearly captures a rare phenomenon.


Dai Nippon Printing Group has significantly expanded its printing business, and is engaged in a wide range of businesses, including IC cards and other electronic products, as well as packaging. While striving to reduce the environmental impact of its production activities, the group has developed a variety of ecologically beneficial products, such as solar cells, environmentally friendly building materials, and recyclable insulated paper cups. Last year, the group established the "DNP Group Biodiversity Declaration," and continues to work toward realizing a society that coexists with nature.

As with other entries, the group received many outstanding works that used a variety of hues to express the atmosphere, which is essentially colorless. The Excellence Award winner, with its striking vividness of red-tinted clouds, even conveys the awakening of the islands and sea in the silent air.
