Why is INP better than FID?

Post by sumonasumonakha.tu1 »

In addition, INP will replace FID (First Input Delay) as a metric in the future.

As a result, FID will be deprecated and no longer part of Core Web Vitals.

This also means that you will no longer see FID values in your Google Search Console dashboard once this new metric is active.

Google will retain historically important FID documentation, at least for the time being.

So, why did Google replace FID? And how is INP better?

According to Google itself, the First Input Delay has certain limitations when it comes to measuring mint database the responsiveness of a page.

These restrictions are as follows:

As the name suggests, FID only measures the responsiveness of a website visitor's first interaction with the page, i.e., initial input.
FID measures the time the browser had to wait before processing the interaction, i.e., lag.

INP differs from FID in that it measures the entire volume of interactions on a page, rather than just the initial input.

This new metric measures the interaction with the longest delay on a page, or in other words, the interaction that takes the longest to load before the visitor sees a visual change.

“These implementation details make INP a far more comprehensive measure of user-perceived responsiveness than FID.”
