Although ChatGPT only accounts for 2% of Google's monthly traffic, there are media outlets that talk about Google losing market share. What is the current situation?

ChatGPT does not pose an immediate threat to Google's search market share in Switzerland either. Various media outlets have reported that a Bank of America report mentioned that Google may have lost market share. The report referred to global data from StatCounter and Similar Web. StatCounter shows a Google market share of 91.56% for October 2023 compared to 92.34% in October 2022.

The winner in the global race was Baidu, the leading search engine Albania Phone Number Resource in China. Since the statistics do not include ChatGPT, no connection could be shown anyway. Currently, Google sees TikTok as a potential threat in the search area , especially among younger users.

In Switzerland, according to the aforementioned StatCounter statistics, Google’s market share has even increased slightly.

Of course, we are constantly monitoring developments and the development of Google, ChatGPT and generative AI in the search area remains exciting for us too. But at the moment, little is changing in Google's dominant position.

Data from Similar Web shows: Google traffic decreased to 2.8 billion (down 0.4%). Bing traffic increased to 42.7 million (+8%). ChatGPT traffic increased to 55 million (+4%). So ChatGPT traffic represents 2% of Google's web traffic .

Generative AI is changing search as we know it and will continue to change it. But false narratives are not helpful to anyone. Google is still as dominant as it has been since 2015. We will continue to monitor the impact of Google, ChatGPT and generative AI on search.
