Framing your IT project in 4 steps: the complete method [Template to download]

Post by chandon55 »

Framing is a decisive step for the success of an IT or digital project . We have constantly observed this in our consulting activity.

The fact is that the method to follow to frame an IT project is more or less always the same.

You must start by defining the project objectives, the personas (i.e. the target users of the solution), their needs, translate these needs into use cases and these use cases into functionalities, before pakistan phone data organizing the deployment in batches.

We will present you with an example of framing an IT project , valid for all types of IT projects. The objective of this document is to help you structure your project and get it off to a good start.

It is inspired by the methodology we offer to our clients. You will find the download link below.

The 4 key milestones for successful project framing
Milestone 1: Clarify project objectives
Milestone 2: Define target users (personas)
Milestone 3: Identify use cases and associated functionalities
Milestone 4: Plan development in agile mode
Best practices for effective project framing
#1 Involve all stakeholders from the start
#2 Clarify everyone’s role (RACI matrix)
#3 Plan regular steering meetings
#4 Integrate collective alignment times

The 4 key milestones for successful project framing
Milestone 1: Clarify project objectives
We will present you with an effective methodology to successfully frame your IT or digital project. We will start by detailing the first essential steps for this type of project. Each of these steps corresponds to a tab of the resource that we provide you with. In summary, these steps are as follows:

Defining objectives.
The definition of personas.
Qualification and prioritization of use cases.
Qualification and prioritization of features.
The subdivision, that is to say the sequencing of the development of the project in agile mode.
These steps must be performed in order, for the simple reason that:

Use cases arise from the objectives of the IT/digital project and the needs of the target users of the IT or digital solution you wish to develop (what we generically call “personas”).
The functionalities in turn arise from the use cases, of which they are the functional translation.
The organization of the subdivision results from the work of prioritizing use cases and target functionalities.
So you need to start by defining the objectives. Why do you want to develop an IT/digital solution? What objectives does the software or service you are about to develop meet? What is the motivation for setting up this project? What are the expected results? What is the vision of this project?

Take the time to answer these questions and formulate, qualify and prioritize the project objectives. We strongly recommend involving all project stakeholders in this phase. It is important that all project stakeholders (decision-makers and operational staff) are mobilized to develop a shared vision of the objectives and build consensus.

The objectives will serve as reference points throughout the decisions you will have to make during the project – in the design phase and in the implementation phase. For this step, we recommend setting up a workshop or, at a minimum, organizing a meeting – working session (kickoff).
