Since it was hatched in November 2022, many have wanted to assign ChatGPT the role of executioner of Google and its famous search engine . However, it seems that OpenAI's chatbot will not dethrone (at least not yet) the traditional search engines and the undisputed leader in this segment of activity: Google.
Even though some analysts were concerned that the rise of AI could eventually put Google in trouble , the internet giant is still fueling advertising revenue directly from its search engine. In the first quarter of 2024, rising advertising revenue from Google Search helped the Mountain View company increase its profits by almost 60%.
Furthermore, a recent Bank of America report estimates that Google's market share in the search market grew to 91.1% in June , while visits to ChatGPT's website plummeted by 12%,
Google Search is not an alternative to AI, Bank of America analysts emphasize bahrain whatsapp lead in their report. And Google is, in fact, fueling its market preeminence thanks to AI , Bank of America analysts Justin Post and Nitin Bansal emphasize.
AI is reportedly boosting Google Search's advertising revenue
Google’s AI Overview feature , despite notable lapses in its launch across the pond , “could ultimately spur growth in search .” And the more Google integrates its AI into products like Google Cloud and Google Search, the better those products will ultimately perform, Bank of America analysts say.
“We remain positive about Gemini’s integration into the Google ecosystem and believe that a broader rollout of the AI Overview feature will help increase usage of Google apps and also fuel monetization on the platform ,” Post and Bansal said.
However, what is good news for Google's pocketbook is not necessarily good news for competition authorities , who have long had their sights set on the company led by Sundar Pichai in the United States. A few months ago, the US Department of Justice and Google faced each other in court in a trial that will decide whether or not the company engaged in monopolistic practices in the search field. The verdict in that trial is expected to be issued by the end of the year.
In addition, in January of last year the US Department of Justice filed another antitrust lawsuit against Google, in this particular case referring to its online advertising business.
Why Google's search engine still has a long way to go (and ChatGPT won't be its executioner)
