Photoshop turns 30 years old. This makes the popular photo editing program one of the most historic. Editing images has become a necessity for many people today. Some for work reasons, like photographers, and others, out of a simple addiction to perfection and aesthetics.
But, in any case, they have a popular editing program. And that is why they celebrate Photoshop turning 30 years old as their great ally.
It all began on February 19, 1990, when Photoshop 1.0 was released. It was a program for Macintosh computers that could retouch images in digital format. It should be noted that it was not and is not the only one of its kind, but it should be noted that it was a pioneer. With software that boosted computing to retouch images, initially in black and white, up to the very high resolutions of today.
It is to be imagined that after three decades, changes and advances have been made, such as the inclusion of functions, automating those that it already had. In this way, its domain was expanded on new platforms such as iOS, iPadOS and Android. In addition, there were modifications in its business model from paying per license to monthly or annual subscription.

The name change: from Display to Photoshop
This software did not always have the famous name by which it is known today, since at first, Thomas Knoll called it Display. This is because it was initially going to be a computer application that would have the purpose of viewing grayscale images on monochrome monitors , since in 1987 this was the norm.
But its creator was not satisfied and gave it a second name: ImagePro. This was also changed to Barneyscan XP, because it was distributed as support software for a Barneyscan brand scanner. But finally they called it PhotoShop , as you can see in the About of early versions such as 0.63.
After being purchased by Adobe and since its 1.0 version, it has kept its name until today. The change is only reflected in the surnames and the numbering. This is one more reason to celebrate Photoshop's 30th anniversary of retouching the imperfections of images.

First Adobe Manual
Along with the release of version 1.0 in 1990, a user manual was released entitled « User guide: Adobe Photoshop Macintosh version ». It was published in the same year as the software. This guide has a total of 440 pages, probably more content than expected for the time.
These hundreds of pages explain in detail how each tool in Photoshop 1.0 works , which could be used, among other things, to:
