Paysafe Report: Italians Want to Choose Their Payment Method

Nearly half of Italian consumers (45%) have changed their spending habits compared to a year ago, becoming not only more price-conscious but also more demanding in their choice of payment, from debit cards and bank transfers to digital wallets and cash, according to new research from Skrill, a globally established digital payments brand and part of Paysafe, a global payments platform and digital wallet provider.

Paysafe’s report, Inside the Wallet: How consumers are chinese overseas british database spending and saving in 2024 , found that 43% of Italian consumers abandoned their online shopping cart if a company didn’t offer their preferred payment method . With retailers increasingly adopting cashless policies, a significant proportion of Italian consumers (57%) expressed concern about no longer being able to use cash as a payment option, with a further 36% indicating they would like to be able to purchase goods or services online and pay for them with cash in a physical store.

Bob Legters , SVP Product at Paysafe, commented: “Consumers are comparison shopping more than ever, not just to find the best deal, but also a better payment experience that offers choice, security and speed, and keeps them coming back. As consumers’ financial conditions and priorities change, businesses need payments partners with a proven track record of offering innovative payment options that appeal to a wide range of consumers, from the youngest to the oldest and everyone in between.”

Payment security is also a top concern for respondents. More than half (56%) said the security of a company’s payment process is an important factor when deciding where to shop online. Over two-thirds (72%) of Italian consumers said they feel better about buying from a company if they know that security measures have been taken to protect their data or if they see a payment option they recognize.
