Google Analytics – Referrals and SPAMS

Post by shukla53621 »

What is Google Analytics?
Analytics is a Google tool that allows you to retrieve more or less detailed statistics on the traffic generated by your website. Google Analytics allows you to retrieve the number of visits, unique visitors (sessions), the bounce rate (the Internet user visits 1 page of your site then leaves without continuing), but also the location of Internet users, the achievement of objectives (sales, contacts, registrations, etc.), in short, a powerful tool that is very useful for all web companies or digital communication agencies such as Rollingbox. This is not the subject of the post, but if you ask, I could write a short article on this topic.

SPAMS
I recently noticed that unknown referring sites were portugal business email list appearing in the list. FYI, a referring site is a site from which a supposed Internet user would have clicked to reach your website. I use the term supposed here because I discovered that some spammers use this technique to generate traffic on their sites. These sites are most often e-commerce sites.

The technique of the referring site
The goal for the spammer here is to generate virtual traffic by sending HTTP requests directly to Google Analytics. The traffic here is not real. The spammer's script only addresses Google Analytics, using your Google Analytics account number (UA-XXXXX-1). The Spammer does this because in this case, you cannot block him. If he generated real visits to your site, with htaccess or PHP, you would quickly block him. This practice is therefore risk-free for your website, its database or your server.

The goal of this technique
Well, the spammer therefore makes his sites appear in the list of referring sites that generated traffic on your site. As a good Marketer that you are, this type of information is very interesting for you and you want to know which is this referring site. So you click on the link that takes you to this site and increase the amount of traffic to the latter.

The remedy by Google Analytics
If you have a Google Analytics Universal account (if you don't have one, I advise you to switch to it), you can block unwanted referring sites. To do this, I found this short video of a few seconds allowing you to filter referring sites. Thanks to whom?
