Hackers dare to attack everything and everyone, even the most powerful. Just ask Apple , which is currently facing threats from a group of cybercriminals dubbed the “Turkish Crime Family.”
This group claims to be in possession of the login details for millions of iCloud accounts and is threatening to delete the information associated with those accounts if Apple does not give in to their extortion.
Hackers reportedly asked Apple for $75,000 in bitcoins (or $100,000 in iTunes gift cards), according to media outlets such as Motherboard and Mashable .
If those from Cupertino do not agree to pay mexico phone data this amount to the “Turkish Crime Family” before April 7, the group intends to reset the iCloud accounts that it had stolen .
However, it is not entirely clear whether the Turkish Crime Family is actually in possession of millions of iCloud accounts. As proof that such accounts are in their possession, the group has uploaded a video on YouTube in which its members can be seen logging into several iCloud accounts.
There is also a shadow of doubt surrounding the number of affected accounts. Initially, it was believed that 200 million accounts were affected, but later another figure was suggested and it was said that almost 560 million accounts were compromised.
Motherboard has also published an alleged email exchange between cybercriminals and Apple 's security team . In one of these emails, Apple replies to the hackers that the company does not negotiate with cybercriminals and informs them that the conversation will be archived and sent to the authorities.
